The Light 103.9 Lamplighter Awards Show was a vision of mine 13 years ago. In 2001 which was ten years a go Radio One Inc. gave me the permission to do the awards show.

The vision God gave me was to do a classy awards show that recognized the hard work and effort put forth by local individuals, groups, churches, organizations and businesses that make our community a better place to live through community service.

In addition to the awards ceremony I wanted the show to be similar to the NAACP Image Awards and feature performances from some of the top national recording artists in the industry.

The unique thing about the Lamplighter Awards Show is that it is a video presentation. The video of each finalist tells their individual story of community service. The videos are very compelling and heart felt. The show is very entertaining, most people that attend for the first time can’t believe that Raleigh / Durham have such an awesome awards show.

Throughout the ten year history of the Lamplighter Awards Show we have been blessed to have performances by some of the biggest names in the Gospel Music Industry, artists such as Hezekaih Walker, Smokie Norful, Mary Mary, Luther Barnes, James Fortune, Pastor Shirley Caesar, Donald Lawrence, Dorinda Clark Cole, Jay Moss, Ernest Pugh, Vickie Winans, Regina Belle and a host of others.

The vision is to make the Lamplighter Awards Show a national event like the Stellar Awards. The Light 103.9 Lamplighter Awards Show is often compared to the Stellar Awards by the artists that perform at the Lamplighter Awards Show. The artists say that our awards show is on the same level as the Stellar Awards and are surprised that a radio station was capable of putting on a top notch awards show.

There are a total of 10 awards, the Lifetime Achievement Award, The John Hope Franklin Humanitarian Award, The LeRoy Walker Youth Scholarship Award, The Cathy Hughes Business Community Service Award, The Community Outreach Award, The Youth Outreach Award, The Senior Citizen Outreach Award, The Health Outreach Award, The Shirley Caesar Music outreach Award and the Reverend FC Barnes Heritage Award.

Your Local McDonald’s Owner Operators have been a long time presenter of the Lamplighter Awards Show and without their support and the other business that have been sponsors the Lamplighter Awards Show would not be possible. We appreciate their loyal support and commitment to serving the community.

The Lamplighter Awards Show is a semi formal event and is open to the public and will take place on Saturday November 5, 2011 at the Progress Energy Center for the Performing Arts located on 2 E. South Street Raleigh, NC 27601.
