All North Carolinians who filed their 2009 returns on time will receive their income tax refunds – along with interest says a  spokesman from the state Department of Revenue.

The DOR struggled to issue refunds amid limited cash flow in a slowed economy, but
State law stipulates that after the May 31 deadline, North Carolina must pay 5 percent interest on unissued refunds

Secretary of Revenue Kenneth Lay says, “We apologize for any hardship the delay may have caused taxpayers.” Since January, DOR has issued more than 2.8 million refunds totaling more than $2.1 billion.
