After breaking several records throughout the season, Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry was chosen as the league’s MVP on Tuesday, becoming the very first unanimous choice in NBA history. “I never really set out to change the game. I never thought that would happen in my career,” said Curry as he accepted his award. “What I wanted to do was be myself. … I know it inspires the next generation. You can work every day to get better.” This is the second year in a row Curry has received the honor; only 11 other players in the league’s history have received back to back MVP awards. He garnered all 130 first-place votes from a group of sports journalists and got one from the Kia MVP fan vote. During the season, Curry averaged 30.1 points per game. “He’s constantly trying to improve with no agenda. … This is incredibly improbable. But there’s a reason this is happening,” said his coach Steve Kerr. Other players in the running for MVP included LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Chris Paul, and Russell Westbrook. Read more.

Doctor Who Treated Prince Before His Death Identified

According to court records, Prince saw a doctor the day before he died. The same doctor, Michael Todd Schulenberg, was at Prince’s Paisley Park residence the day he died to give the singer his test results. Schulenberg reportedly told officials he prescribed medicine to Prince. On April 27, a search warrant was filed for the artist’s medical records. The warrant was put into action on May 5. Schulenberg reportedly no longer works for the North Memorial Health Care system. “That shouldn’t be a surprise to anybody that these records were examined,” said Carver County Chief Deputy Jason Kamerud. Investigators are remaining mum about specific details surrounding the warrant. Prince’s cause of death has still yet to be determined. Read more.

Michael Brown’s Mother Says She Was Inspired by Tina Knowles

Lezley McSpadden, the mother of Michael Brown – the teen who was fatally shot by a White police officer in Missouri – has received an outpouring of support since her son died back in 2014. One of the influential people who have extended their support to McSpadden is Beyoncé’s mother Tina Knowles. In her new book Tell the Truth & Shame the Devil: The Life, Legacy, and Love of My Son Michael Brown, McSpadden recounts her encounter with Knowles: “I felt a light tap and turned to see Beyoncé’s mama, Tina Knowles, standing there. She immediately wrapped her arms around me … For the next few minutes she shared something very special with me,” wrote McSpadden. “’What are you going to do now? You have to do something,’ she said, looking me in the eye. ‘I know. I started a foundation, but I’m still figurin’ it all out,’ I said. ‘Listen, Lezley, there was an organization that started back in the 1980s called Mothers Against Drunk Drivers, MADD. You should look it up. It could inspire you.’” McSpadden went on to discuss how Tina Knowles inspired her to start Rainbow of Mothers, a group of women who have lost their children and are working towards achieving social justice.
