Radio One’s official 30th Anniversary initiative, “30 Years with 30 Days of Giving” is over, but the giving back will continue in Charlotte and nationally.

“My prayer is that we have ignited a renewed sense of giving back,” said Radio One CEO Cathy Hughes.

Staff and volunteers associated with My92.7 and Praise Charlotte spent last month volunteering at Harvest Center. We worshipped, cut hair and served hot lunches to the homeless and those in need. Over 400 people were fed per week.

Here’s a look at what happened at other Radio One stations:

* Atlanta: All three stations highlighted one local non-profit organization by airing promotional commercials voiced by the organization in conjunction with a daily on line campaign highlighting 30 different organizations with 30 different on air messages. The awareness helped many of the organizations solicit volunteers; provide their services to new people in need; raised money and more.

* Baltimore: Collected 2,000 pounds of non perishable food from five area Stop Shop Save grocery stores. The food was delivered to the Maryland Food Bank for needy families across the region.

* Cincinnati: Our team completed five walks including the Alzheimer’s Memory Walk, The Walk to Stop Aids, Step Out Against Diabetes, Making Strides Breast Cancer Walk and The Bridges for A Just Community Walk.

* Cleveland: Radio One staffers led a march against Domestic Violence across Cleveland’s Detroit/Superior Bridge. Nearly 100 women joined together in support of each other, telling stories of survival, and releasing purple balloons with letters of recovery. Earlier in the week they joined with Pepsi to raise $15,000 dollars for a Domestic Violence Shelter. That check was presented at a luncheon with over 400 in attendance.
