This weekend the much anticipated remake of “Sparkle,” featuring Whitney Houston, will be released.
Actress Mary Alice, who is best known for her role as the Oracle in the Matrix, played Effie, Sparkle’s mother, in the movie. This is the part that Whitney Houston plays in the remake.
During a recent interview Mary Alice spoke out about the racism she experienced while filming the original movie. She says the producers at the time wanted Effie, to be a very different person from what we saw in the original and what we will see in the remake.
