Raleigh Steakhouse Ranks On Southern Living’s Legendary Restaurants List

Raleigh's Angus Barn was named the No. 5 legendary restaurant in the South by Southern Living, earning praise for its steaks, hospitality and holiday tradition.

One of Raleigh’s best-known restaurants has earned another major honor.

The Angus Barn ranked No. 5 on Southern Living’s list of the South’s most legendary restaurants, joining a collection of iconic dining destinations recognized for their lasting impact, hospitality and regional traditions

Opened in 1960 on Glenwood Avenue, the Angus Barn has become a North Carolina landmark known for its aged steaks, extensive wine program and annual holiday decorations that draw visitors from across the state.

Southern Living said the restaurant has endured decades of change while remaining a favorite for both regular customers and first-time diners.

The magazine also highlighted the restaurant’s resilience after a devastating fire in 1964 and its reputation as a bucket-list destination during the Christmas season.

The top four restaurants on the list are The Olde Pink House in Savannah, Georgia; The Old Mill Restaurant in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee; Bern’s Steak House in Tampa, Florida; and Columbia Restaurant, also in Tampa.

Angus Barn was the highest-ranked restaurant from North Carolina.
