School starting back up is supposed to be an exciting time, but for me, it has also been a little stressful. During my “Erica-ism of the Day” on Get Up Mornings with Erica Campbell, I opened up about the challenge I’ve been facing trying to make sure my child is registered and ready for the new school year.

I had to keep it real with everybody and say, “Don’t judge me,” because school starts next week, and I was still trying to make sure everything was in place. I asked everyone to pray for me because I needed some favor. I needed someone to say, “Yes, there is still a spot available.”

The process has not been easy. I’ve been running around trying to get everything handled, making multiple trips to the school and following every step they told me to follow. But it felt like every time I got one thing done, there was another form, another email, or another waiting period.

As a parent, you’re just trying to do what’s best for your children. You want them to be in a place where they can learn, grow, and have teachers who care about them. That’s all I’m asking for. I want my child to have a good environment, good educators, and a place where they can thrive.

And yes, my children attend public school. I believe in public education, and I also believe parents should have choices when it comes to where their children learn. I pay my taxes, and I want to make sure my child has access to the best opportunities available.

Sometimes people only see the finished product. They don’t see the paperwork, the phone calls, the waiting, and the stress that comes with making sure your kids are taken care of. Parents everywhere know that feeling of trying to move mountains for their children.

So that was my prayer for the day: Lord, please make a way. Help me get my child into the right school with great teachers and a positive environment. I’m trusting that everything will work out exactly how it’s supposed to.

Thankfully, I had encouragement from the team who reminded me that it was going to happen. And I received that. Sometimes you just need someone to speak hope into you when you’re feeling overwhelmed.

That was my real talk for the day. Parenting comes with plenty of joys, but it also comes with moments where you just have to ask for a little favor and a whole lot of prayer.
