Rev. Al Sharpton said this past weekend that by courting the Black vote, Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich “assumes [Blacks] are stupid,” accusing the politician of trying to “cover up the fact that his campaign is falling apart.”

Sharpton called Gingrich’s attempt to reach out to Black voters “an insult,” enraged with the conservative for telling Republicans to “have the courage” to sell their ideas to the predominantly Democratic African-American voting block.

Sharpton argued that Black people received “disproportionate injury from Republican policy.” Sharpton also accused Gingrich of “hoping to suppress the Black vote” by speaking ill of President Obama, hypocritically referring to him as “the food stamp president.”
