The North Carolina State Utilities Commission will hold a hearing Monday about Duke Energy Carolinas’ request for a rate increase. The 9.7 percent increase would affect 1.9 million NC customers, primarily in the Piedmont, including Charlotte and the Triad.

NCDOT is suspending most of its construction projects on the state’s highways to help keep the July 4 holiday traffic flowing smoothly. Starting today at 4 p.m., construction projects along interstate, North Carolina and U.S. routes will be suspended until 9 a.m. Friday.
