The Senate’s new budget plan could cut thousands of children from free and reduced lunches in North Carolina.

The provision would reduce the number of families eligible to qualify for SNAP benefits, also known as, food stamps.

Under the proposal, 133,000 people would lose those benefits.

Approximately 50,000 would be children.
