God Belongs in My City Prayer Walk will be held Saturday January 30th at 10am in Downtown Durham

505 W Chapel Hill St.  Durham, NC 27701.  The Light will be joining Pastor John Fitzpatrick and others for this walk.  Listen as Melissa talks with Pastor Fitzpatrick of One Love Ministries about the event and how you can be apart:

You are invited to participate in a city changing, community raising, and atmosphere shifting prayer walk in downtown Durham, called “God Belongs in My City” on Saturday, January 30, 2016 beginning at 10 am. We will meet at the Downtown Durham Police Station (505 W Chapel Hill Street); parking is available at parking garage adjacent to the Durham Bus Station and American Tobacco Campus.

“God Belongs in My City” (GBIMC) Prayer Walk originated in Manhattan, New York in 2009 when a youth group, passionate for Christ, saw an atheist advertisement campaign in their subway system reading “1,000,000,000 New Yorkers Are Good Without God. Are You?”

Understandably outraged, the youth group consulted their youth pastor who then went to contact a group of pastors and leaders to pray on the next steps to take as the Body of Christ. Youth ministries from 5 boroughs held a prayer walk on November 14, 2009 with 1,500 participants. They walked from the north and south of Manhattan, gathering at Times Square and Grand Central Station, making a bold statement that made history in the city and now the world. There have been more than 25 walks that have taken place in more than 12 states and 4 locations outside the U.S. since 2009.

This walk is a declaration of faith in our Savior Jesus Christ, as we fearlessly rise up against the strongholds in our local communities and nation! We have been commissioned to carry forth the Gospel and introduce the Kingdom of God to those who do not know! Past prayer walks in North Carolina include Rocky Mount, Cary, Winston Salem, Charlotte and now Durham.

The Durham prayer route will include the Durham Bus Station, the Police Station, the Durham Bull statue (in the center of downtown Durham), the Superintendent’s office, the Post Office, the Library, Durham Rescue Mission, the Courthouse and Jail, Durham Performing Arts Center, the Durham Bulls Baseball Stadium, and the American Tobacco Campus which will lead us back to our starting point. Along our route we will be mindful to share the gospel and pray for individuals we pass. We also hope to share food and water with individuals and families in need.

We believe that as we walk, the Spirit of the Lord will break chains and dismantle strongholds that exist in Durham, and the love of Jesus Christ will be felt like never before! There will be a fragrant aroma of Christ released in our city through our obedience, in JESUS NAME!
