Charleston Mayor Joe Riley announced during a press conference today that the leaders of Charleston are coming close to taking down the confederate flag.
The recent church massacre stirred up a debate over using the confederate flag. The shooter Dylann Roof has been shown in recent social media postings, embracing the confederate flag. Many believe it symbolizes hatred and racism.
Now many citizens and some elected officials are pressing once again for its removal from the Capitol grounds. Over 1,500 protesters gathered at South Carolina’s statehouse yesterday, where the Confederate flag flies high.
