What’s the key to living a long and prosperous life? Just ask Jeralean Talley, who was recently named the oldest living person at the astonishing age of 115.

In an interview with CBS Detroit, Talley touched on her new title as well as some of her “secrets” to living a long life. Talley was named the oldest person in the world this week after the death of a 116-year-old Arkansas woman. Talley was born on May 23, 1899 in Montrose, Georgia and moved to Michigan in 1935. Her husband died in 1988, but the proud grandmother is cared for by her 77-year-old daughter who lives with her.

Talley says she’s happy to have lived through so many moments in history, including the presidency of Barack Obama. Friends of Talley say her mental state is very sharp, even though she’s unable to move around on her own. When it comes to her diet, she shares that there’s no secret, but she does stay away from smoking, drinking, and cheese. She also enjoys her morning coffee with sugar and fruit cups.

Talley credits her faith in God for her longevity.

“It’s coming from above,” she said. “That’s the best advice I can give you. It’s not in my hands or your hands.”

The Inkster, Michigan native is still ready to take on the world — she plans on heading out with her family to Dexter later this year for their annual fishing trip.
