For those who believe or have been told that an aspirin a day could prevent them from ever having a heart attack; the FDA says different.

The FDA says there is no evidence that an aspirin a day will prevent you from having your first heart attack. Aspirin can be recommended if you have already had a heart attack and with other medicines may prevent a re-occurrence, but it is not effective in preventing an initial heart attack.
They also warn that if you are taking an aspirin a day be careful not to stop suddenly because it could have a reverse effect and put you at a higher risk of having a heart attack.
