A petition created by Eva Vega and published on Change.org is calling for Oprah Winfrey’s network and channel OWN to remove Tyler Perry from the airwaves. The petition claims that Perrys shows “perpetuates sterotypes about the black community.”
Perry’s new series “The Have and Have Nots” premiered on OWN Tuesday night and “Love Thy Neighbor” debuted on Wednesday and both ranked high among viewers.
Oprah has committed to being empowering, and educational to the community and prides her company on being so too. This petition challenges her committment saying Perry’s entertainment is “hurtful to the Black community.”
So far the petition has only 30 supporters.
