A man who was great in wearing so many hats and changing so many lives has passed away. LeRoy Walker is survived by a son and daughter.  His wife Katherine passed away in 1978.

Dr. Walker was a legendary track coach at NCCU  and the first black person to head the U.S. Olympic committee.    He taught and inspired more that 100 all american athletes, 40 national champions and 12 Olympians in track and field.

After track and field he moved into the administrative offices and in the late 70’s served as vice chancellor and in 1983 lead NCCU for three years as head chancellor before retiring.

To all who knew Dr. Walker…. He will be missed!

The Scarborough & Hargett funeral home in Durham will be handling the funeral arrangements, but no date has been set yet.
