The NC State fair begins next week so if you want to avoid the traffic and parking hassles, then Capital Area Transit will offer shuttle service Oct. 13 – 23rd.

The shuttles will operate every 20 to 30 minutes every day from 3 locations and passengers will be dropped off at Gate 1 at the fairgrounds.

Hillsborough Street Route – The route stops at special blue State Fair bus stops located at regular CAT bus stops all along the route. The route begins on Wilmington Street at Morgan Street in front of the North Carolina Department of Transportation bBuilding, turns left onto Edenton Street, merges onto Hillsborough Street, and travels to the Fairgrounds. Returning from the Fairgrounds it travels Hillsborough Street, merges onto Morgan Street and returns via Wilmington Street. From Oct. 14 through Oct. 23, the route operates 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 a.m. On opening day, Oct. 13 this service will operate from 1:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m.

 

Non-Stop Park & Ride Express Routes

  • North Raleigh – 2912 Wake Forest Road – Follow the green State Fair signs from I-440 Exit10 (Wake Forest Road) or the intersection of Wake Forest Road and Six Forks Road to 2912 Wake Forest Road at the IBT Holdings Building.  This is one block south of the I-440 Beltline and one block north of Six Forks Road. This route operates from 8:30 AM to 12:00 a.m. except on October 13 when it will operate from 2:30 p.m. to 12:00 a.m.
  • Cary – WakeMed Soccer Park – Follow the green State Fair signs from I-40 Exit 290 (Cary/Highway 54) or Exit 291 (Cary Towne Boulevard) toWakeMed Soccer Park, 201 Soccer Park Drive, Cary off of East Chatham Street near the Raleigh/Cary border. This route operates from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 a.m. except on Oct. 13 when it will operate from 2:30 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. 

The fare for the State Fair shuttle is $4.00 round trip. The reduced fare for senior citizens 65 and older and passengers with disabilities is $2.00 round trip. Children under 40 inches tall ride free of charge with a paying passenger. All other children pay full fare. GoPasses are not valid on State Fair routes. Exact change is needed on the Hillsborough Street route. Ticket sellers at the Cary and North Raleigh park-and-ride lots will be available most hours and can make change. Advanced sale passes are available and may be purchased at the CAT Operations Facility, 4104 Poole Road or at the Moore Square Transit Station information booth.
