Short, cryptic online messages sent before the bizarre death of an Apex High School student hint of jealousy, veiled threats and a dark scheme unraveling.

Seven days into the trial of Ryan Patrick Hare, 19, who is accused of murdering Apex teen Matthew Silliman, forensic investigators continued to take the stand Tuesday to fill in details of what prosecutors have described as a plot born of jealous wrath.

Beth Whitney, a forensic computer examiner with the City-County Bureau of Identification, testified Tuesday about messages between “f8lessshadow,” an online screen name Hare used, and “akhanx47,” an online screen name used by Aadil Khan, 19, a former Apex High student also accused of having a hand in Silliman’s death.
