For decades everyone’s favorite doll has held many polished careers from doctor to astronaut to stay at home mom. Now the 11.5-inch-tall fictional doll has become a graduate of Church Divinity School of the Pacific in Berkeley, Calif., has donned a cassock and surplice and is rector at St. Barbara’s-by-the-Sea in Malibu.
Upon Barbie’s arrival she was wearing a custom tailored ecclesiastical of vestments, which included various colored chasubles (the sleeveless vestments worn at Mass) for every liturgical season, black clergy shirt with white collar, neat skirt and heels, a laptop with prepared sermon and a miniature, genuine Bible.
The Rev. Barbie, who in less than a week had drawn nearly 3,000 friends on her Facebook page, is becoming a much sought after item. It has been stated that Barbie will next become an Episcopal Priest for the Cathedral Edition. An African American Bishop Barbie is also on the way.
