Kim Person Celebrates Stellar Awards Nod, Talks New Single ‘Surrender’
Gospel artist Kim Person stopped by The Light 103.9 this week for a conversation with host Melissa Wade, sharing her joy over her latest single, “Surrender,” and her nomination at this year’s Stellar Awards.
Person, a top nominee, could hardly contain her excitement about the honor.
“I am through the roof,” she told Wade. “I don’t have the words to describe, but I’m super excited.”
The recognition comes after more than 25 years in the music industry, and Person said the moment feels deeply personal. She credited her faith for carrying her to this season.
“God rewards faithfulness, and He never has forgotten me,” she said. “It was just all about the right season, the right time and the right moment.”
Person, nominated in the Albertina Walker Female Vocalist of the Year category, spoke with pride about the support she has received from her home state. She said her community has rallied behind her every step of the way.
“Raleigh will stand up. Wake County is standing up. North Carolina is standing up,” Person said. “And I can’t wait to represent you guys this weekend.”
Fans hoping to catch her in person will have their chance. Person will perform at a nomination party Friday at noon at Headliners in downtown Raleigh. She also plans to appear in the main show and to film commercials tied to her nomination.
She reflected on the years of prayer and quiet work behind the celebration.
“These are things that I prayed about, prayed for, cried about,” she said. “People don’t see the behind-the-scenes things. All they see is when God opens the door.”
As she prepares for the weekend, Person offered one heartfelt hope.
“I hope I represent North Carolina well,” she said.
