Update — Saturday, June 1, 2019
During a press conference Saturday morning Virginia Beach officials identified the victims and the shooter.
The shooter was identified as a long-time city employee, DeWayne Craddock. According to Wavy TV 10, Craddock, 40, was angry after being fired on Thursday. He was taken into custody, yesterday, but was pronounced dead.
Along with the gunman, 12 victims have also died and several people were injured, including a Virginia Beach police officer. Some victims still remain in local hospitals.
Hard to believe, it was just last month that Pharrell Williams launched his Something in the Water Festival at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront.
A native of Virginia Beach, Williams tweeted about the devastating tragedy, saying, “We are praying for our city, the lives that were lost, their families and everyone affected. We are resilient. We will not only get through this, but we’ll come out of this stronger than before we always do.”

A nearby hospital was placed on lockdown and authorities urged the public to avoid the area, while officers worked to secure the building.
Just before 5:00 PM, the Virginia Beach Police Department alerted the media that the shooter was in custody. Several have been injured, however, authorities have not confirmed specific details or if there have been any casualties.
This is still a developing story.
