Nancy Reagan died over the weekend at the age of 94, and a public viewing will be held today before she is laid next to her husband, President Ronald Reagan who died in 2004.

The day will start out with a small ceremony this morning for family and friends in Santa Monica, California.  This will be followed by a motorcade leading to a public viewing in the afternoon at Simi Valley’s Ronald Reagan Presidential Library. Eight Secret Service agents who served the Reagans will act as pallbearers when the body is taken from the Santa Monica funeral home.

Friday will be the funeral – which was planned down to the smallest details by the former first lady herself. Just as she was always by his side in life, Nancy Reagan will be laid to rest just inches from President Ronald Reagan on a hillside tomb facing west toward the Pacific Ocean.

Before her death she planned the funeral’s flower arrangements, the music to be played by a U.S. Marine Corps band and the people who received invitations to the private memorial.

Michelle Obama will be attending the funeral today and she had this to say about Nancy Reagan:

“Mrs. Reagan was a woman of incredible strength and grace and she was a passionate advocate for so many important issues,” Obama added. “For the example she set both during her time in the White House and beyond. Mrs. Reagan reminded us of the importance of women’s leadership at every level of society.”
