As some feared, flu deaths have tripled in NC. Thirty people in North Carolina died of flu last week bringing the total cases to 54 during this flu season.
Most of those deaths were among the elderly 65 and older.
Officials say one reason for the spike in deaths this year is because the specific strain H3N2 of flu is not well matched to the vaccine that was given to patients this year. Doctors still recommend getting the flu vaccine because it can still protect against 3 of the 4 stains.
