Laura Lynne Smith lost control of her vehicle and ran off the road and hit several trees causing the vehicle to overturn and killing her passenger.
Witnesses day they were traveling very fast and erratically before the crash. The vehicle was traveling 74 mph in a 45 mph zone.
Smith was reportedly impaired by medication and had a blood alcohol level of .32, well over the NC limit of .08. Smith was listed in serious condition and has been charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle.
