Today Gerald Owens gave a quick recap of this weekend big news stories and a heads up on what’s coming up in the WRAL TV-5 evening news.   

Owens a 20 year television veteran started his career in 1993, as a reporter trainee at WUSA-TV in Washington, D.C. and began working at WRAL TV-5 in 2002.

Today Owens recapped the following stories:

  • A spring like storm system moved through the Triangle on Saturday. One person died and more than 100 trees were knocked down by the strong winds.
  • A fire gutted a home in Cary, completely destroying the house.
  • A local Fire Fighter was honored this weekend as a hero for his actions with the fair ride accident this past fall. The firefighter was off duty at the time of the accident.
  • The Panthers season comes to an end after the lost to the 49ers.

Tonight Owens will talk about an escaped inmate that has ties to North Carolina and President Obama will visit North Carolina this Thursday. The President will speak at NC Stat University about the economy.
