The Revenue Laws Study Committee approved a propsal to cut the current jobless benefits.
Now the approved changes will be considered by a group of House and Senate lawmakers in North Carolina.
The changes proposed are: to drop the maximum weekly benefit from $535 to $350 and to replace the 26 weeks of benefits with a cap of 13 – 20 weeks based on the NC economy.
The cuts would affect those who apply for unemployment benefits beginning in July, and would help NC repay the $2.4 billion it owes federal government.
