Friday October 26, 2012 Gov. Beverly Perdue declared a state of emergency for 38 counties in eastern North Carolina anticipation of Hurricane Sandy’s presence off the coast.

The state of emergency will take effect Saturday for Beaufort, Bertie, Bladen, Brunswick, Camden, Carteret, Chowan, Columbus, Craven, Cumberland, Currituck, Dare, Duplin, Edgecombe, Gates, Greene, Halifax, Harnett, Hertford, Hoke, Hyde, Johnston, Jones, Lenoir, Martin, Nash, New Hanover, Onslow, Pamlico, Pasquotank, Pender, Perquimans, Pitt, Robeson, Sampson, Tyrrell, Washington and Wayne counties.
