Starting today drivers in Durham could see a big green Triangle Transit bus zooming down the shoulders of freeway I-40. Drivers will be practicing the “bus-on-shoulders” program that will begin next month.
The program will allow drivers on four Triangle Transit routes the option to bypass traffic jams by driving slowly on the I-40 shoulder… but it’s only for buses – it will still be illegal for other vehicles to do so.
The trial runs are scheduled weekdays between 10am – 2pm and the formal program get under way July 16th.
