Registration is open to students across North Carolina for the 29th annual N.C. Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) Leadership Conference, to be held Nov. 18-20 at the Hilton North Raleigh/Midtown Hotel, 3415 Wake Forest Road, Raleigh. This year’s theme is “Lights, Camera, Take Action! Direct Your Own Life.”

The event typically draws about 250 student members and advisors of SADD chapters statewide to the state capitol for workshops that support youth leadership and healthy decision-making. Group activities focus on SADD’s mission of assisting young people in their schools and communities to promote highway safety and reduce teen involvement with alcohol, other drugs, violence, teen pregnancy and other challenges they face.

The first 200 students who register will be eligible for $60 scholarships to help offset registration costs. Registration is $180 or $225 per student – or $225 or $295 for adults – depending on choice of room occupancy. The registration fee includes two nights’ hotel accommodations, meals, workshops and a conference T-shirt and bag. Download a registration form or call 919-807-4400 to request one by mail.

Featured presenters will include Craig Lloyd, Executive Director of Mothers Against Drunk Driving North Carolina; Annette Carrington of the Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention Coalition and Durham County Health Department, and a representative of the State Highway Patrol. Members of the SADD Student Advisory Board will lead several of the sessions.

The 29th SADD conference is sponsored in part by grants from the Governor’s Highway Safety Program, the Office of Safe and Drug-Free Schools and the ABC Commission. NC SADD is part of the Youth Advocacy and Involvement Office of the N.C. Department of Administration.
