Walgreens seems to have a great wealth of black products in its store…all the way down to the David’s Sunflower Seeds. During black history month though, they will take time to celebrate black vendors that supply their stores and others by showing off all the beautiful products they carry as a part of their tribute to Black History month. The multi-faceted drugstore is shedding new light on the many black products available not only in their stores, but what is available throughout the country.

There are a lot of products consumers may not have known come from black owned and operated vendors. These items will be available in the store at up to a 50 percent discount for the entire month of February. Walgreens is helping the vendors as well as the cause they’d like to get behind by doing this. The cause for Walgreens is the Alzheimer’s Association.

According to Walgreens, AA provides outreach and education services on a disease that is not only the sixth leading cause of death in the United States, but also a disease that African Americans are twice as likely to have, as well as other forms of dementia. The ugly part is that we’re dying at an alarming rate from it because, for whatever the reason, we are not going to the doctor and that is making us the most likely to suffer from it. We are also less likely to be diagnosed than other ethnicities.

Throughout black history month, Walgreens will include the organization in its “national ads, store signage and monthly coupon book.” To see a list of black-owned vendors they are supporting and find out more information on their Black History Month initiative, read here.
