Having to go into extra time, the US finally pulled out a goal. Landon Donovan’s goal in the 91st minute of U.S. game qualified the team for the knockout round and gave them the win in Group C of the World Cup. Donovan’s dramatic goal in stoppage time gave the U.S. a 1-0 win and sent Algeria home from the tournament.
England also advanced as the runner-up in group C with a 1-0 win over Slovenia
