T.D. Jakes Passes Leadership of The Potter’s House
In a milestone moment for The Potter’s House, Bishop T.D. Jakes officially transferred leadership of the renowned Dallas megachurch to his daughter, Sarah Jakes Roberts, and her husband, Touré Roberts. The couple was installed as co-senior pastors during a packed Sunday service, ushering in a new era for the congregation Jakes founded nearly 30 years ago.
“Today, a mantle was passed with power, and a future was set in motion,” the church shared in a statement on Instagram alongside video clips from the emotional ceremony. “Bishop Jakes lifted up a legacy of sacrifice to release the next generation into purpose. This moment was sacred—and what comes next requires all of us.”
The leadership transition was first announced earlier this year. In an April message to the congregation, Jakes expressed his faith in the Roberts’ ability to carry the ministry forward. “I cannot afford to let all the work of all the saints, living and dead, to hold this so tight so long that I wither away,” he said. “So I’m suggesting to you, I’m recommending to you, that you receive Pastor Touré and Pastor Sarah.”
The installation service, which lasted nearly four hours and coincided with the church’s 29th anniversary, filled the 7,600-seat auditorium, according to The Dallas Morning News.
