Washington D.C.– The Times reports that it is the second straight year that homicides have declined in the city and the seventh time in 10 years that the nation’s capital has recorded fewer than 200 homicides.

Metro plans to begin random searches of its riders’ bags in the coming days, the transit agency said Thursday, revisiting a plan first announced two years ago. Some riders are saying they won’t be comfortable with the random searches.

WASHINGTON D.C. — Police identified a body found Monday afternoon in a trash bin as that of 17-year-old Ebony Franklin of Capitol Heights, Maryland.

The U.S. Census Bureau reported recently that Georgia has the second-highest percentage of black-owned businesses in the nation at 20.4 percent. Only the District of Columbia, at 28.2 percent of the city’s businesses, has a larger percentage of African-American ownership.
