The office of U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, Preet Bharara, has launched an investigation of health concerns among public housing units and homeless shelters across the city. Cases of elevated blood lead levels and false claims from housing and shelter officials will fall under the scrutiny of federal prosecutors, the New York Times reports.

Details are emerging regarding the brutal murder of Rebecca Cutler and two of her three children allegedly at the hands of a crazed boyfriend. According to statements from the Staten Island District Attorney's office, Michael Sykes stabbed the victims a total of 69 times, the New York Daily News reports.

A trio of Black female students at the State University of New York-Albany claims that they were assaulted and harassed on a city bus by a white mob over the weekend. The women allege that 10 to 12 white students in the group comprised of both men and women beat them while using racial slurs.
