The Black Political Caucus – of Charlotte Mecklenburg made its voice known this week by endorsing Mayor Pro-Tem Vy Lyles for Charlotte Mayor. While it isn’t lost on Lyles or Mayoral candidate Sen. Joel Ford that a split in the Black vote could open a path for Incumbent Mayor Jennifer Roberts to win the September 12th Primary, neither have signaled a willingness to drop from the race to be Roberts’ sole challenger.   Voting records indicate that nearly two of three of the city’s Democratic voters are African American. This swath of Charlotte’s voting population will help determine the direction of the Queen City. With Lyles receiving the Caucus’ endorsement, it could potentially yield a huge chunk of the Black vote in September.  It’s unlikely Vy Lyles will drop from the race considering her big endorsement. The question is: will Sen. Joel Ford cede to Lyles and give her a chance to face Roberts? ‘COMMUNITY VOICES’ host Ron Holland talks with Tonya Jameson, former Columnist and Reporter of the Charlotte Observer and WCCB-TV Contributor, Brandi Williams about the upcoming race.
