Back in September 2013 an unarmed black man by the name of Jonathan Ferrell was shot by white officer, Randall Kerrick. Kerrick is accused of voluntary manslaughter and he is scheduled to go on trial July 20.  North Carolina’s largest city is now preparing for the start of a police shooting trial this month and trying to take certain precautions to avoid the racial unrest that’s plagued other cities.

According to the Charlotte Observer a meeting will be held Thursday at Sanctuary Charlotte Church with intentions to build an interfaith, interracial coalition against racism and injustice. Speakers that are expected to be present are from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg NAACP, the Charlotte Muslim community and Center City Church.

A rally is planned for Sunday that will attempt to unite police and certain community groups they’ve been in contact with since the shooting occurred.
