Michael Sam Documentary Coming to OWN

Former NFL player Michael Sam made headlines after becoming the first openly gay football player to be drafted to the professional league. A new documentary will highlight Sam’s journey to the NFL and how he broke barriers by being candid about his sexuality. It will also delve into Sam’s childhood and how he came of age in poverty. The documentary, which is called ‘The Untitled Michael Sam Project,’ was supposed to be released by OWN earlier this year but the network postponed it so that Sam could focus on getting a spot on the St. Louis Rams team. Ultimately, Sam did not make the team, or any other NFL team. The 90 minute documentary is now slated to air Dec. 27 at 9 p.m. ET on the OWN network. Read more.
