State officials say 13 people in North Carolina have died from the flu, with five deaths occurring last week.
The flu usually affects the very young and the very old, but in all these cases all the victims were younger than 65 with seven being between 25 and 49 and five others between 50-64.
Local hospitals were limiting visitors until cases reside.
The CDC (center for disease control) recommends that everyone 6 month and older get a yearly flu shot; it’s the most effective way to prevent the flu.
