Wake County Board of Education member John Tedesco announced today that he will not run for re-election this fall, but decided he wants to spend more time with his family.

Tedesco made headlines when he stood against the long-standing policy of busing for diversity, and with his outspokenness the Republican majority led board overturned the policy in 2010.

Tedesco unsuccessfully ran for the state superintendent last year but hasn’t ruled out running for office in the future. His term runs out in November.
