An effort by some Wake County Republican lawmakers to change how leaders of North Carolina’s largest school system are elected has been approved by the Senate following Democratic accusations the redistricting is partisan. The Senate voted 33-17 Monday to redraw lines for the nine-member Wake County school board and move its elections from odd-numbered to even-numbered years in 2016. Voters now only elect their district’s representative. The bill would turn two seats into regional posts elected by half the county.

The bill now goes to the House.
