In the past the balcony of the Lorraine Motel was only open for Freedom Award Honorees and dignitaries but now the balcony is available, for the first time, to the public. The balcony will be open for just over a year while the museum undergoes renovations.
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was shot and killed while standing on the balcony of the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tenn. in April of 1968.
