The final vote on whether to establish a community based school policy and do away with a diversity policy is on tap in today’s meeting.  The change was previously approved on April 28th but has meet much criticism from several group including the NAACP, who think this will give way to segregated schools.  The committe meeting is scheduled for 1pm and the regular meeting at 3pm.

In the meantime Wayne County Schools may be a product of such things and are looking into allegations of segregation. NAACP filed a complaint against the school system in December.  Allegations are that the school policies have resulted in higher dropout and suspension rates, lower graduation and stiffer penalities for black students. The complaint also states that the system uses buses to segregate by race.  A public forum is scheduled for tonight at 7pm at Rebuilding Broken Places Community Center.
