Durham police say they shot the suspected gunman who shot and killed a woman at a Dukes Health Systems clinic Tuesday afternoon. Police responded to the clinic on North Duke Street in Durham at about 3 p.m. after they say the gunman targeted a female employee inside. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Police located the suspect a short distance away at a wooded area near the intersection of Carver and Broad streets after he fled on foot. After a firefight with officers, police say they shot the suspect, seriously injuring him. He was taken to the hospital, but his condition is unknown. Authorities say they are unsure why the suspected gunman targeted the woman and what their relationship was. They have not released either individual’s identity.
