Thursday night in Nice, France when tragedy struck a Fayetteville police officer and her family were vacationing.  14-year veteran detective of the police department, Silvia Jordan is doing fine, however her father was among the many people who were seriously hurt.

According to WRAL news, Jordan said she was able to get out of the way as a truck barreled through a crowd celebrating Bastille Day, but her father, who lives in Italy, was hit.  Lt. Todd Joyce told WRAL “Detective Jordan, with her training, was able to take a sweater she was wearing and use it as a tourniquet to apply to her father to help control the bleeding.”

Joyce actually went through the police academy with Jordan and she informed her comrades back home what happened and that her dad needed prayer.  According to Joyce, Jordan’s father has serious internal bleeding and lost his leg.

WRAL news reports that Joyce said “But you can only imagine the flood of emotions that she has. She’s there with her family, and you know, they were just there for the celebration. No one ever thinking that this attack was going to occur.”

Jordan said thankfully no one else in her family was injured in the attack but her father faces a long road to recovery. Joyce’s police family back in Fayetteville have been by her side.

On behalf of the department Jordan said “We are trying to help (Jordan) in any way that we can as an agency because we are a family. We love her very much.”

Jordan’s father is currently in serious but stable condition.  In total, 84 people were killed in Thursday’s attack and an additional 202 were injured.
