According to Lumberton police a 3-year-old child found a gun Sunday behind the counter at his father’s convenience store and accidentally shot himself.
The Lumberton Police Department said the store manager Manal Abdelaziz who is also the father of the toddler immediately called 911 after the shooting just before 11 a.m. The boy was transported from the convenience store on Martin Luther King Boulevard to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Police say that they have turned the case over to the Robeson County District Attorney’s Office for review at the completion of the investigation to determine if charges will be filed.
