Local Police said a U.S. Army soldier 19-year-old out of Fort Bragg died after crashing his motorcycle in a high-speed chase in Wake County.

North Carolina State Highway Patrol said Wake County sheriff’s deputies reported two motorcycles outside of Fuquay Varina were driving recklessly. The deputies tried to pull them over for excessive speed. One of the bikers pulled over, while the other kept driving.

Deputies pursued the other biker down NC-55 to Highway 401 N. toward Garner. Authorities said the soldier was traveling in excess of 145 mph. The driver lost control of the motorcycle going at least 100 mph.
