According to CNN on Tuesday the Bureau of Prisons said an estimated 6,000 federal inmates will be released at the end of the month. This will be the largest one-time release of federal prisoners.
Bureau spokesman Edmond Ross said that the inmates being released are all drug offenders. The inmates became eligible for release after going through an appeals process following the recent restructuring of drug sentences by the U.S. Sentencing Commission.
Ross said the release will take place between October 30 and November 2, adding that the number will grow in the future.
