According to police an 11-year-old was left at home with his 4-year-old sister and staved off several home invasion attempts before finally fatally shooting a 16-year-old intruder.  On Thursday police officers arrived after 2 p.m. to the St. Louis County home on to discover the body of the 16-year-old intruder lying in the front foyer.

Neither sibling was hurt in the incident.  However some neighbors questioned the account.  According to CNN affiliate KMOV one woman said the two boys were on the front porch of the home when the 11-year-old took out a gun and fired.

The woman also told the affiliate the 16-year-old didn’t enter the house at all.  Police said It wasn’t immediately known why the two were left alone in the first place or why an 11-year-old had access to a firearm, but the mother was cooperating with the investigation.

CNN affiliate KTVI/KPLR reported the mother, whose name has also not been released, allegedly purchased the handgun due to prior attempted break-ins.
