Sources have confirmed that on Thursday a plan will be announced that will cut tens of thousands of Army soldiers as well as civilian employees.

By 2017 it’s possible that around 40,000 soldiers and 17,000 civilian workers will lose their jobs. However the cuts will be “limited” at Fort Bragg which is the nation’s largest Army post.

The limited cuts at Fort Bragg is good news since the Air Force already announced plans to deactivate the 440th Airlift Wing which is also based at Fort Bragg. The Air Force deactivation would eliminate more than 1,400 jobs.

Fort Bragg has nearly 65,000 active-duty soldiers and reservists.  The cuts, which have been discussed for two years, are a result of the military’s downsizing process after pulling out of Afghanistan and Iraq.
