Parents of 6th grade students should make sure their kids have received the Tdap vaccine so they can avoid possible school suspension. Students must get the shots within 30 days of school starting.

The Tdap vaccine immunizes students against tetanus, diptheria and whooping cough. The shot is required under state law after North Carolina saw a rise in whooping cough cases five years ago.
